Tools to Intentionally Plan Your New Year! 🥳

Hello Reader,

I hope you’re enjoying your holiday season!

I realize it’s painfully cliche – but how is it possible that this year is almost over?!

For me, the year has really flown by.

Time flying isn’t necessarily a bad thing… but it has prompted me to reflect on how I’m using that time.

  • What’s truly important to me?
  • What activities do I want to spend more time doing?
  • What things do I want to spend less of my limited time and energy on?

I’m not huge on new year’s resolutions, but I do want to enter the new year with intention. ✨

I’ve included two of the Life Planning Tools I’ve found helpful in that kind of intentional planning below my signature. ⬇️

I use these tools with my clients as part of the Life Planning Process.

Recently Nate and I have been completing these exercises with our financial planner – reminding me how powerful they can be! 💪

These exercises really aren’t financial in nature at all!

But having clarity around your Life Goals and your Ideal Schedule are essential elements of every financial plan.

Supporting a life you truly want to be living is the entire point of having financial resources! Money is never an end in and of itself.

I hope you find these tools helpful — and that 2025 brings good things for you and yours!

Best, Dave

PS: My friend Uriah has put together an amazing list of all the therapist conferences and retreats coming up next year. Maybe one – or more – of them wants to show up on your ideal year exercise!

PPS: If getting on top of your finances is part of next year’s goals for you, schedule an initial fit meeting with me and let’s talk things through! My slots book up quickly this time of year – so book a relaxed, no-pressure conversation with me today!

Brainstorm Goals for your Life 🎯

If you want to ensure you have a well-rounded vision of your great life, the Goals for Life grid exercise is for you. It will help you define meaningful goals in each of the important areas of your life (e.g. health, family, career, spiritually… and more!)

Build Your Ideal Day, Week & Year 🗓️

An essential first step in getting to a life you love living is defining what you want that life to look like.

That might sound painfully obvious. But it can be tricky to really figure this out!

Enter the Ideal Day, Week & Year Exercise.

I’ve found the structure of the exercise makes it easier to start thinking about how my daily life looks today – and how I might want to change things.

It has also helped me realize when I’m not dedicating adequate time to important goals.

🔗 Check out a view-only copy of the worksheets here! There are three tabs: start wherever and use whatever feels most helpful to you!

Keeping Track of Your Progress ✅

Once you’ve completed that exercise, you might want to track your daily progress towards your ideal, which you can do with my Ideal Week Tracker.

The first tab is blank for you to complete, and the second tab is an example of how I used it. (You’ll notice I fell off tracking my days, which is totally ok! You don’t have to rigidly follow any of these worksheets - they are simply tools to help you bring greater clarity and awareness around how to build a life you love).

Hello Reader, Well, it’s been an interesting start to the year here in Los Angeles – to say the least. The wildfires that have decimated several neighborhoods here have impacted pretty much every Angeleno (yes, that’s what we’re called) in some way. We ended up evacuating last week – and while our neighborhood ended up being relatively unscathed, save the lingering air quality issues – it was nonetheless jarring. Of course the events are tragic and my heart goes out to those who have lost so...

Hi Reader, It’s a time of year many of us will be getting together with loved ones we don’t see that often. Which makes it a great time to consider whether your beneficiary designations are up-to-date! What is a beneficiary designation? 🤔 A beneficiary designation designates who should get your account assets if you pass away. That person is the beneficiary of your account. Usually you can just fill out a form online through your financial institution. By doing so, you are creating a...

Hello Reader, Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I feel like I’m still recovering, although that’s mostly from the cold I picked up along the way. 😷 As we quickly approach the new year, I’ve been thinking about what I’ll cover in this email newsletter in 2025. AND I’ve been considering how I can make what I cover most impactful for you – wherever you find yourself in your professional journey.
